Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman nominated as Leader of Opposition in Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly

PML-Nawaz President and former Chief Minister, Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman has been nominated as the leader of the opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. The decision comes despite the party's support for the consensus-based election of key constitutional officeholders

GILGIT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jun, 2026) PML-Nawaz President and former Chief Minister, Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman has been nominated as the leader of the opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. The decision comes despite the party's support for the consensus-based election of key constitutional officeholders.

Like other political parties represented in the Assembly, PML-Nawaz unanimously voted for the unopposed election of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Chief Minister.

With nine members in the 33-member House, PML-N is the largest party on the opposition benches and is therefore positioned to hold the office of the Opposition Leader.
