HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jun, 2026) Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri (TI) inaugurated the newly established “Fauzia Collection Handicrafts Centre” at the Institute of Sindhology next to its bookshop here on Tuesday.
The centre showcases and offers for sale a wide range of traditional Sindhi handicrafts, including Ajraks, Sindhi caps, embroidery pieces, handcrafted souvenirs, home décor items, handmade handbags and exquisite artworks created by local artists.
Visitors to the Institute of Sindhology expressed keen interest in the cultural products displayed at the centre, particularly items suitable for home and office decoration, gifts, Ajraks, Sindhi caps, handbags and other handmade crafts.
Accompanied by distinguished guests, the vice-chancellor toured the facility and appreciated the quality, craftsmanship and artistic value of the products on display after the inaugural ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Fatah Muhammad Marri (TI) said that Sindh’s culture represented thousands of years of history, civilization and artistic heritage.
He noted that traditional handicrafts served as a vital symbol of a nation’s identity and that preserving and promoting these crafts was essential for passing cultural heritage on to future generations.
He said Sindh’s artisans and artists, through their skill, dedication and creativity, produced masterpieces admired not only across Sindh but around the world. He said that works of art reflected the intellectual, aesthetic and cultural values of society and therefore deserved institutional support and encouragement.
The vice-chancellor said the handicrafts centre established alongside the Sindhology bookshop, would provide thousands of university students, visitors from across Pakistan and tourists from abroad with easy access to authentic cultural products. At the same time, it would serve as an effective platform for local artisans to showcase their talent and improve their livelihoods.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Expressing hope for the initiative’s success, he said the centre would play a significant role in promoting Sindh’s cultural identity and strengthening the tradition of handicrafts.
Director Institute of Sindhology Dr Fayaz Latif said the institute had always promoted cultural activities alongside academic and literary pursuits. He noted that the Sindhology Museum prominently displayed traditional crafts, cultural artifacts and artisan communities to introduce visitors from home and abroad to Sindh’s rich civilization heritage.
He said providing space for the handicrafts centre at the entrance of the institute was aimed at encouraging traditional craftsmanship while creating employment opportunities for local artisans. He thanked the vice-chancellor for his continued support and guidance, which, he said, had contributed significantly to the institute’s progress and development.
Speaking on the occasion, the head of the “Fauzia Collection Handicrafts Centre” Fauzia Junejo thanked the vice-chancellor and the director of Sindhology for their support. She said the centre aimed not only to generate employment but also to promote Sindh’s traditional arts, crafts and fine arts while encouraging local craftsmen. She added that quality products would be made available to customers at affordable prices.
On the occasion, Dr Arfana Mallah, Dr Rehana Mallah, Prof Benazir Junejo, Dr Moula Bux Thebo, Dr Zubaida Junejo, Anwar Mansoor Mangrio, Dr Humaira Hakro, Liaquat Rizvi, Dr Rashida Bhatti, Samina Memon, Sabeen, Prof Muhammad Ali Laghari, Prof Abdul Hakeem Shahok, Dr Abdul Majeed Mangrio, Furqan Soomro, Wahid Paras Hisbani, Salma Qayoom Shaikh, Agha Ateeq Ahmed Pathan, Sultan Ahmed Chandio and other prominent academic and literary personalities were also present.
