In a video message shared after a period of silence, Aamir said she had taken time off to reflect amid increasing criticism surrounding her online presence
KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 11th, 2026) Pakistani actor Hania Aamir has raised concerns over growing online toxicity, criticising the trend of targeting women and comparing female public figures on social media.
In a video message shared after a period of silence, Aamir said she had taken time off to reflect amid increasing criticism surrounding her online presence. She acknowledged feeling overwhelmed, adding that the backlash prompted her to reassess whether she needed to change herself.
The actor, known for her lively and candid social media activity, said the criticism reflects a deeper societal discomfort with confident and expressive women. She noted that while platforms have evolved, the nature of judgment—particularly towards women—remains unchanged.
Aamir also highlighted the trend of comparing women through viral posts, questioning the double standards as similar comparisons are rarely made between male celebrities.
She further urged women to reflect on internalised criticism, stressing that such behaviour contributes to an environment where individuals are judged for not conforming to expectations.
Calling for greater acceptance, she emphasised the need to allow people to express themselves freely without facing online harassment or pressure to conform.
Her remarks come after she faced criticism over her recent Eid appearance, where her choice of attire and minimal makeup sparked debate on social media, with some users questioning her style and cultural expression.
