Health corridor project approved to ensure unhindered access to Nishtar Emergency

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Mar, 2026) A major infrastructure initiative to improve access to healthcare services in South Punjab has been approved as a meeting chaired by Amir Kareem Khan cleared the transformation of Nishtar road into a modern health corridor.

The Rs. 316.8 million project,approved in the District Development Working Party (DDWP) meeting aims to ensure swift and unhindered access to Nishtar Hospital, which receives thousands of patients daily.

Officials presented a comprehensive traffic management plan focused on easing congestion and ensuring the smooth movement of ambulances.

Stressing urgency,the commissioner maintained that delays in access could prove fatal,underscoring the need for efficient mobility.

The project includes complete rehabilitation of the road,featuring modern carpeting,an improved drainage system,widened footpaths and enhanced safety measures.

A computerized parking system,modeled on Lahore parking company will also be introduced,while private plazas have been directed to keep parking facilities operational to reduce roadside congestion.

Urban design improvements form a key component of the plan with dedicated pedestrian walkways,upgraded street lighting,clear signage,landscaped dividers and bridge beautification set to reshape the corridor into a safer and more organized route.

Authorities shared that chronic traffic congestion on Nishtar road had long hindered emergency response,often delaying critical care.

The upgraded corridor was expected to significantly improve response times and patient access.

Construction will begin after completion of an ongoing Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) project,involving the installation of a one-kilometer sewerage line from district jail to Al-Khaliq medical center.

The commissioner directed all departments to ensure strict quality control and timely completion, making it clear that no compromise will be tolerated.

The meeting was attended by Director Development Mubashir Rehman,MS Nishtar Hospital Dr.Rao Amjad,CEO Municipal Corporation Iqbal Khan and officials from the highways department and other relevant bodies.
