Health Department terminates house officer over objectionable social media content

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) The health authorities have terminated the house job of a doctor after disciplinary proceedings found him guilty of uploading objectionable content on his social media account, officials said on Thursday.

According to a spokesperson for the Specialized Healthcare and Medical education Department on Thursday , Dr. Ali Osama, son of Muhammad Shafiq, who was serving as a paid house officer at Nishtar Hospital Multan, was found to have uploaded objectionable material on his social media account, an act that was deemed prima facie misconduct.

The spokesperson stated that no health professional is permitted to upload objectionable content on social media, adding that such actions violate the rules, regulations, laws and code of conduct applicable to house officers and trainee doctors serving in government health institutions.

Following the allegations, Dr. Ali Osama was issued a notice for a personal hearing and was asked to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him. He was provided a full opportunity to present his case during a personal hearing held on June 11, 2026, in accordance with the principles of natural justice.

The department said that both the written reply submitted by the doctor and his explanation during the hearing were thoroughly examined. After reviewing the available record, evidence and the doctor's response, the competent authority concluded that the allegations had been proven.

According to the official statement, the doctor's conduct was found to be unbecoming of a house officer serving in a government institution and contrary to the discipline and dignity required under the relevant rules and regulations.

In view of the findings and after considering all available evidence and explanations, the competent authority ordered the immediate termination of Dr. Ali Osama's house job at Nishtar Hospital Multan.

The Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department reiterated its commitment to maintaining professional standards and discipline among healthcare workers in government institutions.
