RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Apr, 2026) Provincial Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Khawaja Salman Rafique on Monday chaired a meeting to review performance and healthcare facilities at Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI) Rawalpindi.
The meeting was attended by Member National Assembly Tahira Aurangzeb and Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical education Azmat Mahmood, while Dean Prof Dr Faisal Dar joined via video link. Project Director PKLI Rawalpindi Dr Zulfiqar Ali Khan and other officials were also present.
During the briefing, the minister was informed that hundreds of patients visit the outpatient department daily, while under financial screening, free treatment is being provided to deserving and underprivileged patients.
Officials highlighted that facilities including dialysis, X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan and MRI are available at the centre, which is equipped with 35 dialysis machines.
The minister also visited various departments of the hospital and reviewed healthcare services.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said the government was striving to ensure provision of quality healthcare services across the province, adding that patients from Azad Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern areas and Gilgit-Baltistan were also benefiting from the facility.
He noted that thousands of patients were being provided free treatment under special initiatives and added that steps were underway to soon start kidney and liver transplant services at the facility.
Tahira Aurangzeb said quality dialysis services were being provided to patients at the local level, adding that the government believed in practical measures rather than mere claims.
Secretary Specialized Healthcare, Azmat Mahmood emphasized that priority was being given to completion and effective functioning of health projects across the province.
