Health minister visits PKLI, Children’s Hospital, reviews progress

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Jun, 2026) Provincial Health Minister, Khawaja Salman Rafique on Friday visited the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) and the under-construction Children’s Hospital in Rawalpindi, reviewing healthcare facilities and progress on development works.

Tahira Aurangzeb, MNA, Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical education Azmat Mahmood, Project Director PIU Tariq Mahmood Rehmani and Commissioner Rawalpindi Aamir Khattak accompanied him during the visits.

At PKLI, Professor Dr Faisal Saud Dar and other faculty members were also present. The minister was briefed on the institution’s performance, healthcare services and administrative affairs, after which he visited various departments to review facilities.

Khawaja Salman Rafique said that under the Punjab Nursing and Health Workforce Reform Programme, three state-of-the-art Centres of Excellence would be established in different districts, adding that one such centre was also being planned near PKLI Rawalpindi.

He said modern healthcare facilities were being provided to patients suffering from kidney and liver diseases, while thousands of people were being offered free treatment under special initiatives. Tahira Aurangzeb said quality dialysis facilities were being ensured at the local level, while Azmat Mahmood noted that patients from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern areas were also visiting the facility.

During his visit to the Children’s Hospital, the minister was briefed on the pace of construction work and directed the authorities concerned to ensure timely completion of the project.

He said the hospital would become fully operational next year and emphasised that no compromise would be made on the quality and speed of development work.

Tahira Aurangzeb said the hospital would provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, while the health secretary said practical steps were being taken to improve service delivery across the sector.
