RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2026) With intensifying heatwave conditions, the sale of unhygienic ice cream, ice-balls, kulfi and cold beverages has increased sharply across Rawalpindi, posing serious health risks particularly to children.
Reports indicate that vendors in busy markets, parks, around schools and residential areas are openly selling ice products like falooda, khoya etc prepared with contaminated water and poor hygiene practices, attracting children during extreme heat.
Talking to APP, paediatric specialist Dr.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Wasim Ghani warned that substandard ice balls, kulfi and coloured drinks could lead to stomach, liver and digestive diseases. He said the use of polluted water and low-quality chemicals increased the risk of cholera, typhoid, gastroenteritis and hepatitis.
He advised parents to discourage children from consuming such items and instead ensure use of hygienically prepared food and drinks at home.
Citizens urged the Punjab Food Authority to launch an immediate crackdown against vendors selling unsafe products to protect public health.
