Heatwave Alert Issued for Sindh, Temperatures Expected to Surge Till May 03

KARACHI: The Met Office has issued a heat-wave alert for Sindh till May 03, warning that temperatures are likely to remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal over the coming days. 

The province of Sindh is about to endure heatwave conditions of great intensity; the upper and central regions will be the hardest hit.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Sindh has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for multiple regions of the province, such as Jamshoro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kashmore, Ghotki, Sanghar, Khairpur, Naushehro Feroz, Jacobabad, Larkana, where temperatures will likely be elevated from four to six degrees above normal.

Karachi’s high temperature on Tuesday was recorded at 34.7°C, and the relative humidity was 58%, while other areas in Sindh were much hotter. Mohenjo-daro reached 44°C. Larkana reached 42.5°C, as did Jacobabad, Dadu, and Hyderabad, around 42°C. The temperatures in cities like Sukkur, Rohri, and Shaheed Benazirabad were over 40°C. 

Health experts advise individuals to take additional precautions to protect themselves from heat stress by avoiding direct exposure to the sun during the hottest part of the day, drinking plenty of fluids, and using preventive measures against heat exhaustion.
