High-level meeting held to ensure transparent and peaceful general elections 2026 in GB

GILGIT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2026) A high-level meeting was held in Gilgit-Baltistan to review preparations for the upcoming General Elections 2026, focusing on ensuring a transparent, free, fair, and peaceful electoral process.

The meeting was attended by Chief Election Commissioner Gilgit-Baltistan Raja Shahbaz Khan, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Arshad Majeed Mohmand, and Inspector General of Police Dr Nasir Akbar Khan. Key agenda items included election arrangements, security planning, provision of facilities at polling stations, training of election staff, and identification of sensitive polling stations.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Election Commissioner emphasized the need to ensure complete transparency, impartiality, and adherence to the rule of law during the electoral process. He urged all relevant institutions to perform their duties through close coordination and a unified strategy.

The Chief Secretary assured that the district administration would extend full support and ensure timely completion of all administrative arrangements to facilitate a smooth electoral process.

Inspector General of Police Dr Nasir Akbar Khan briefed the participants on the security measures, stating that a comprehensive security plan is being developed to ensure the safety of voters, polling staff, and candidates. The meeting also stressed strict enforcement of the code of conduct, with a commitment to take indiscriminate action against any violations.

The participants reaffirmed their commitment to holding the General Elections 2026 in Gilgit-Baltistan in a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful environment, ensuring that voters can exercise their democratic rights without any hindrance.
