HMC expands advanced healthcare services with daily kidney transplants, launches cornea transplant facility

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) has expanded its advanced healthcare services with kidney transplant surgeries now being conducted on a daily basis, the launch of cornea transplant procedures and continued improvements in hospital infrastructure and digital healthcare systems.

Hospital's spokesperson said here on Wednesday that transplant services for kidney patients have accelerated after separating the urology and transplant units, reducing patient waiting time to less than one month.

In a major development for eye care services, the hospital has also initiated cornea transplant procedures under the PAKO programme using imported corneal tissue from the United States, creating new treatment opportunities for patients in the region.

To improve patient care and service delivery, HMC has implemented a consultant-based and consultant-led treatment model and expanded outpatient department (OPD) timings to improve access to timely medical treatment.

Official said major infrastructure upgrades have also been completed, including activation of a newly renovated ground floor facility where neurosurgery, thoracic surgery, acute stroke care, interventional radiology and hepatobiliary surgery services are now being provided under one roof.

The hospital has completed renovation of its laundry block along with installation of new machinery, while refurbishment work on gynecology operation theatres has reached 75 percent completion.

Construction of the new Accident and Emergency Block has reached 98 percent completion, with arrangements underway for staffing and installation of biomedical equipment before operational launch.

HMC has also submitted a PC-1 proposal to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for liver and bone marrow transplant programmes, while efforts are continuing to secure funding for a new 150-bed Spine and Orthopedic Unit.

To facilitate patients, the hospital has introduced online appointment and registration services under IBP systems and adopted paperless SSP workflow and digital dashboards to strengthen hospital management and administrative efficiency.
