KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Apr, 2026) Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho met a delegation of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan led by its Chairperson Asad Iqbal Butt at the Central Police Office Karachi, where matters relating to law and order, protection of human rights and institutional cooperation were discussed in detail.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the overall law and order situation in Sindh and exchanged views on the protection of human rights, rule of law, promotion of public trust in policing and avenues for enhanced cooperation, said a news release on Wednesday.
The HRCP delegation appreciated the steps taken by Sindh Police for maintaining law and order and safeguarding human rights, and stressed the need to further strengthen coordination to make these efforts more effective and integrated.
Members of the delegation observed that Sindh Police had taken notable and effective measures, particularly in the protection of women and children’s rights, engagement with civil society and safeguarding freedom of expression, compared to other provinces.
Speaking on the occasion, the IGP emphasised the need to further highlight positive initiatives undertaken by Sindh Police to enhance public confidence.
He cited timely action in the Umerkot incident, swift progress in the case involving a medical student in Mirpurkhas, and effective action in a so-called honour killing case in Khairpur as practical examples of human rights protection.
He maintained that cooperation with institutions like HRCP was vital for ensuring transparency, accountability and public trust in the policing system, adding that complaints related to human rights violations were addressed promptly with serious and effective legal action.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to further strengthen mutual collaboration through regular engagement, training sessions and the development of effective strategies.
The delegation also presented the IGP with a report issued by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.
The meeting was attended by DIG Headquarters, AIG Gender-Based Violence and Human Rights, HRCP Vice Chairperson Sindh Qazi Khizer, Council Member Sindh Sohail Sangi, Council Member Saadia Baloch and Regional Coordinator Sindh Nida Tanveer.
