IESCO intensifies crackdown on power theft, arrests 3,288 offenders

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Jun, 2026) Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has further intensified its ongoing campaign against electricity theft across its operational region, arresting 3,288 power thieves and imposing fines amounting to Rs. 593.60 million since the launch of the anti-power theft drive in 2019.

According to an IESCO spokesman on Sunday, the dedicated enforcement teams are conducting daily inspections and taking strict legal action against individuals involved in electricity theft and other illegal power usage practices on the directives of IESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood.

He said that during the crackdown, a total of 11.53 million units of electricity were charged to offenders, while fines worth Rs.

593.60 million were imposed. Of the total amount, 94 percent has been recovered, reflecting the effectiveness of the campaign and the company’s enforcement efforts.

Speaking on the occasion, Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood reiterated IESCO’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against electricity theft, saying that no individual or organization involved in power theft would be spared and indiscriminate action would continue in accordance with the law.

He urged citizens to become part of the national campaign against power theft by reporting any illegal electricity usage through IESCO’s helpline number 118 for prompt action.
