LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th May, 2026) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem on Wednesday paid rich tribute to Shaheed SSP Ashraf Marth on his 29th martyrdom anniversary, terming him a pride of Punjab Police.

In his message, the IGP said that brave and dutiful officers like SSP Ashraf Marth earned distinction through exemplary performance and leadership during their service, adding that Punjab Police would never forget the sacrifices of its martyrs.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, SSP Ashraf embraced martyrdom on May 6, 1997, in Gujranwala when unidentified assailants opened fire on him.

Following his martyrdom, the Gujranwala Police Lines was named after him in recognition of his services and sacrifice, the spokesperson added.
