The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday expressed concern over the practice of session and additional session judges blocking citizens’ Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs)
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Apr, 2026) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday expressed concern over the practice of session and additional session judges blocking citizens’ Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs).
During the hearing of a case challenging the blocking of a citizen’s CNIC, Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfaraz Dogar questioned how such powers were being exercised by lower courts.
Addressing the Assistant Attorney General, the Chief Justice remarked that it was surprising how session judges were issuing orders to block CNICs. He observed that such significant actions require clear legal authority and asked how these orders were being passed.
The court sought assistance from the Assistant Attorney General on the matter and adjourned the hearing for further proceedings.
