The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday directed relevant authorities to submit a written response regarding the release of funds for the construction of the Bhong Interchange on the Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M-5)
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday directed relevant authorities to submit a written response regarding the release of funds for the construction of the Bhong Interchange on the Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M-5).
The court questioned that why the required funds have not been released despite the project being ordered under a Supreme Court judgment.
A single bench of Justice Suman Rifat Imtiaz heard a petition filed by Raees Munir, represented by counsel Rana Waqar.
During the proceedings, Justice Imtiaz observed that the case was being heard after December. "Why has this project not been taken up since then? Was it not fixed every three weeks?" she inquired.
The court also asked the Assistant Attorney General whether any written reply had been submitted by the authorities concerned.
The counsel for the National Highway Authority (NHA) informed the court that a report regarding the Bhong Interchange had already been submitted.
He stated that the Ministry of Communications had approved Rs. 400 million and written a letter to the Ministry of Finance, adding that they were now awaiting a response from the Finance Ministry.
The NHA counsel further mentioned that Rs. 400 million had been set aside specifically for the Bhong Interchange out of a total allocation of Rs. 4.5 billion for various projects across the country.
Petitioner's counsel Rana Waqar argued that the funds requested from the Ministry of Communications were PSDP funds.
He requested the court to issue directions for the allocation of funds within the budget, stating that it would be in the best interest of the project.
Justice Suman Rifat Imtiaz remarked that without receiving a response from the other side, how can we issue such directions?"
The court directed the Ministry of Communications to submit a written reply regarding the funding of the Bhong Interchange project by the next hearing. The bench subsequently adjourned the proceedings until May 6.
