Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirms no casualties in Karachi’s Imtiaz superstore fire at Zamzama Clifton. Firefighters rescued all 24-25 staff after short circuit sparked blaze in ATM. Teams control flames while clearing smoke. Incident raises fresh safety concerns following Gul Plaza fire.

The Imtiaz Mega Store in Zamzama today is facing a fire, with thick plumes of smoke billowing over Clifton. However, Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirmed that all 25 management members inside the building are now safe.

The fire was said to have started at an ATM in Imtiaz Store in the first floor. A spark of a short circuit served as the triggering factor, and soon it was in touch with flammable parts of cosmetics and clothing. The fire in Zamzama Clifton was spreading in aggressive pace and six fire brigade vehicles were compelled to be on the toes. The firefighters were forced to employ hydraulic cutters to open blocked doors as they fought the zero-visibility basement.

Even though the central flames have been suppressed, a small fire and a lot of smoke still linger in the higher storeys. This accident at Imtiaz Mega Store Clifton occurs only a couple of weeks following Gul Plaza fire, and is rekindling the intense arguments concerning fire safety in Karachi. Police have blocked the Zamzama street to control the people and the smoke.

Emergency handling is changing, still the fundamental problem exists. Karachi still faces the threat of electrical short circuits in its commercial hubs. In the meantime, the structure is still there, but the fire of the Imtiaz Super Market is a vivid reminder of the necessity of airing out the premises and ensuring more rigid adherence to the safety regulations.
