LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jun, 2026) An anti-corruption court on Wednesday once again deferred indictment proceedings against former Punjab chief minister Pervez Elahi and other accused in a case relating to alleged recruitment in the Punjab Assembly in violation of merit.
The hearing was conducted by Anti-Corruption Court Judge Javed Iqbal Warraich. However, charges could not be framed as the attendance of all accused could not be completed.
Pervez Elahi did not appear before the court due to illness. His counsel filed an application seeking a one-day exemption from personal appearance, which was accepted by the court.
Former principal secretary to Punjab chief minister, Muhammad Khan Bhatti, appeared before the court, while other co-accused also marked their attendance.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The defence requested a longer adjournment in view of the summer vacations, following which the court postponed further proceedings until September 9.
The court also sought arguments on an acquittal application filed by co-accused Mukhtar Ranjha.
Pervez Elahi and other accused are facing allegations of making appointments in the Punjab Assembly against merit. Individuals who allegedly benefited from the recruitment have also been nominated as co-accused in the case.
The Anti-Corruption Establishment has already submitted the challan before the trial court.
