On the occasion of International Nursing Day, the Third National Research Conference was organized in Peshawar by the National Nurses and Midwives Research Association

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th May, 2026) On the occasion of International Nursing Day, the Third National Research Conference was organized in Peshawar by the National Nurses and Midwives Research Association.

Nursing leaders, teachers, researchers, students and people associated with the health sector from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa participated.

The chief guest of the ceremony was Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Khaliq-uz-Zaman, while the ceremony was led by Director Nushing, Dr. Shaista Jadoon.

Addressing the ceremony, Provincial Health Minister Dr. Khaliq-uz-Zaman paid tribute to nurses for their services to patients and helpless people in every field without distinction.

On this occasion, tribute was paid to the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale, and to the nurses who lost their lives while serving on the front lines in Corona.

On this occasion, Dr. Shaista Jadoon, who presided over the ceremony, highlighted the key role of nurses in the health sector and said that nursing is a field whose workers are busy saving the lives of others by sacrificing their own lives in every field, be it the battlefield or peace, whether it is a hospital or a road.

Nurses have played their role everywhere and will continue to do so. A living example of this is the services of nurses during Corona, in which most of our colleagues lost their lives.

However, at present, no new recruitments have been made in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa nursing department for the last 10 years, while the lists of Grade 16 through the Public Service Commission have been stalled for the last 10 years.

She said that for the last 20 years, most of the nurses have been serving in Grade 16, while taking advantage of this sector, the market for fake nursing colleges is hot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and those people are robbing the students who are interested in nursing.

Shahista said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government should establish a regular monitoring cell for this and eliminate fake colleges.

She also demanded from the provincial government that in order to make the nursing sector effective, Nursing Directors Research should be established according to the new requirements and posts of community health nurses be issued besides implementing nursing education rules.

The doors of government hospitals in the province should be opened for internship of student nurses because most of the student nurses are going to Punjab, which is putting a lot of financial burden on them.

She requested government not to ignore the nurses, as even now the nurses are waiting for the seniority lists of Grade 16, 17 and 18.

Dr. Shahista Jadoon demanded that nurses be empowered through recruitment, promotion, scholarships and higher education to strengthen the health system and that regular additional financial assistance be provided to nurses.

In the concluding address of the International Nursing Day ceremony, Provincial Health Minister Khaliq-ul-Zaman assured that he would take practical steps to implement the suggestions and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would support development of the nursing sector.
