Pakistan has shared a two-phase framework aimed at de-escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 6th, 2026) A ceasefire proposal between Iran and the United States is being termed the “Islamabad Accord,” according to a report by Reuters citing informed sources.
The report said that Pakistan has shared a two-phase framework aimed at de-escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington. The first phase proposes an immediate ceasefire, followed by negotiations on a comprehensive and lasting agreement in the second phase.
As part of the initial measures, the strategically important Strait of Hormuz would be reopened without delay. Subsequently, both sides are expected to work on a broader ceasefire framework within 15 to 20 days.
Sources indicated that consensus on the proposed accord is likely to be reached soon.
A senior Iranian official, quoted in the report, confirmed that Tehran has received the proposal and is reviewing it carefully. However, the official expressed skepticism over Washington’s intentions, stating that Iran is not convinced about the United States’ seriousness regarding a permanent ceasefire.
The official further maintained that Tehran would not agree to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for a temporary ceasefire, emphasizing that Iran would not accept any imposed deadlines or make decisions under pressure.
