Defence Minister Khawaja Asif says Pakistan was currently passing through an important phase in its history, adding that recent diplomatic developments represented a significant national achievement.

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-June 15th, 2026) Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Monday said that stronger coordination between institutions in Islamabad and Rawalpindi in the past could have enabled Pakistan to achieve greater international recognition much earlier.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said Pakistan was currently passing through an important phase in its history, adding that recent diplomatic developments represented a significant national achievement.

He noted that progress made over the past few years reflected sustained efforts, and said that had institutional cooperation been more effective in earlier periods, the country could have secured multiple international distinctions.

The defence minister said recent successes were a matter of gratitude, describing them as the result of collective national efforts over the past year and a half.

Referring to regional diplomacy, Khawaja Asif congratulated the Iranian leadership, saying Iran had effectively represented its people during challenging circumstances. He expressed hope that long-standing issues affecting Iran would move towards resolution.

He also said that Pakistan would host a signing ceremony related to a United States-Iran agreement in Geneva, calling it an important diplomatic development.

Khawaja Asif said national unity was essential in efforts against terrorism, adding that success in this area would require collective resolve for the security of the country’s population.

He further stated that political differences should be addressed through dialogue and constructive engagement, rather than confrontation.

The minister also urged unity on broader regional issues, calling for continued support for the people of Palestine and Kashmir.
