Citizens report that multiple unauthorized transport hubs across district are overloading vehicles to dangerous levels while charging passengers excessive fares beyond official rates

JHANG: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March As Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, serious transport-related issues have surfaced in Jhang District, with illegal transport terminals operating openly, rampant overloading of passenger vehicles, and unsafe use of gas cylinders inside buses, raising alarm among residents.

Citizens report that multiple unauthorized transport hubs across the district are overloading vehicles to dangerous levels while charging passengers excessive fares beyond official rates.

Locals say that despite repeated complaints, district authorities and transport officials have taken little to no action, allowing the so-called “transport mafia” to operate with impunity.

Passengers traveling from Jhang to Ahmadpur Sial, Bhakkar, Shorkot, and Khushab have also observed vehicles running with gas cylinders onboard.

Residents warn that this practice violates traffic laws and could trigger serious accidents at any moment.

The public has further criticized authorities for failing to include correct fare schedules in the official list issued by the Jhang administration.

Fares for transport from Jhang to Mianwali, for example, remain unlisted, which citizens say reflects administrative negligence and lack of oversight.

Local residents have called on Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to take immediate action.

They demand the closure of illegal transport terminals, strict enforcement against overloading and overcharging, and an immediate ban on the use of gas cylinders in passenger vehicles to safeguard travelers’ lives, especially during the Eid rush.

The authorities have yet to comment on the complaints.
