PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Apr, 2026) Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leaders on Tuesday called on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to immediately resolve the salary and pension crisis faced by employees at the University of Peshawar, warning that prolonged disruption could severely affect academic activity.
In a joint statement issued from the party’s provincial headquarters, Abdul Wasi, Emir JI KP Central, and Sabir Hussain Awan, General Secretary JI KP Central, expressed concern over the strike by university employees protesting unpaid salaries and pensions.
Wasi said delays in resolving the issue threatened the future of students at one of the province’s leading institutions, while Awan said continued unrest in the education sector risked harming the prospects of the country’s future generations.
On Tuesday, a large number of employees from different university departments gathered outside the vice chancellor’s office, where they staged a protest in support of their demands. Demonstrators said the continued nonpayment of salaries and pensions had created serious hardships for their households and daily living expenses.
The JI leaders urged the provincial government to release salaries and pensions on a priority basis and put in place a sustainable mechanism to prevent such crises in the future.
