JICA, Children Complex sign agreement for major healthcare project

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Apr, 2026) A consultant signing ceremony for a major healthcare project was held at Children Hospital Complex where an agreement was signed between the hospital and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to improve child healthcare facilities in South Punjab on Wednesday.

The ceremony, held under the supervision of Dean Prof Dr Kashif Chishti, marked the formal signing for the project titled “Improvement of Child Health Facilities in South Punjab,” including the construction of a new building aimed at enhancing pediatric healthcare services in the region.

Commissioner Multan Division Amir Karim Khan attended the event as chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner Multan Muhammad Nauman Siddique was also present. Medical Superintendent Dr Kamran, senior faculty members including Prof Waqas Imran and Prof Sohail Arshad, along with doctors and nurses, participated in the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Kashif Chishti expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, and Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood for their support in launching the project.

He said the construction of a new tower at the Children’s Hospital would benefit not only patients from Multan but also children coming from across South Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other remote areas.

The JICA delegation included Japanese consultants Tadayoshi TSUMOTO: (team Leader), Kohei NISHIKAWA and Minoru YAMASHITA who attended the ceremony.

According to the hospital administration, the project is estimated to cost over Rs. 6 billion. Following the signing, work on the project will begin, starting with surveys and approval of the structural design. The project is expected to be completed within three years.

Under the plan, the intensive care unit (ICU) will be upgraded to a 65-bed facility, while modern diagnostic services including CT scan, ultrasound, and an advanced laboratory will be established. The four-storey building will house ICU and diagnostic facilities and will be connected to the existing structure through a bridge.

The ceremony concluded with the formal signing of documents, followed by a cake-cutting by the commissioner, the dean, and the JICA team.
