SIALKOT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Apr, 2026) A delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited
Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority, Institute of Surgical Technology
(TEVTA IST) Sialkot, Center of Excellence to review the institute training facilities
and discuss potential collaboration for establishing a Women Business Incubation
Center aimed at promoting women entrepreneurship and skills development.
The visit was attended by Engr Khurram Shahzad, Project Director TEVTA MIDC-IST,
Engr Muhammad Faisal, Principal, Engr Faizan Mirza, Member BOM Member TEVTA COE,
along with Muhammad Akhtar Baig and Zaid Akbar Bhutta (PIU), Naima Rashid (PIU),
Attia Altaf, Zein Ahmed and Abdul Hafeez Sheikh.
The JICA delegation included Chiyo Mamiya, Miki Umematsu, Madiha Bashir and Nazia Sehar.
The detailed briefing was given to the delegation about the activities of the Center of Excellence
and highlighted key technical training programs, including surgical instrument manufacturing
technician, welder, AutoCAD and machinist.
The delegation interacted with trainees and appreciated the success story of Attia Altaf,
a graduate of the surgical instrument manufacturing technician program ( Level 2 & 3) who
has started her own surgical instruments export oriented business after completing the trainings.
The delegation appreciated the institute efforts in skills development and women empowerment.
It was also discussed that a proposal for establishing a Women Business Incubation Center
in economical sector Sialkot may be proposed at TEVTA IST (Center of Excellence)
to the TEVTA High highups by JICA.
The delegation also visited Rhein Surgical Group, Small Industrial Estate sialkot where they observed surgical instrument manufacturing processes.
The management briefed the delegation about industrial workflow and collaboration between TEVTA and industry.
The visit concluded with positive discussions regarding future collaboration between JICA and TEVTA MIDC-IST (Center of Excellence) for strengthening technical education, industry linkages and women entrepreneurship initiatives.
