JKUJ sets deadline to complete district-level polls in AJK by May 31

MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Mar, 2026) The Jammu and Kashmir Union of Journalists (JKUJ) announced that elections for office bearers of all district units will be concluded by May 31 this year, under all circumstances, officials confirmed. Following the completion of district-level polls, elections for divisional and central office bearers will be held, JKUJ stated in a press release issued here on Thursday.

The decision was taken during a crucial meeting of central office bearers and district representatives held in Mirpur, AJK, chaired by JKUJ Central President Hafiz Muhammad Maqsood Mirza. The gathering focused on strengthening the union, ensuring active participation, and restoring the prestige of journalists across the region.

The meeting was attended by key figures including Central Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Abid Siddique; newly elected Rawalakot District Union President Sardar Abdul Razak Khan; Central Vice President Sardar Rashid Nazir; former Central Secretary Finance and ex-President of Kashmir Press Club Mirpur Altaf Hamid Rao; and several senior journalists from various districts including Neelum, Bhimber, Kotli, and Jhelum Valley.

Some participants joined virtually via Zoom and video link, contributing their suggestions and perspectives.

The union reiterated its commitment to making JKUJ stronger and more effective at all levels. Officials emphasized that all district units will collaborate cohesively as a team, ensuring that journalists’ interests are fully represented and the dignity and professionalism of the press in AJK are restored.
