Journalist community plays key role in public awareness, promotion of truth, social reforms: Saleem Memon

HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd May, 2026) President of Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry (HCSTSI), Muhammad Saleem Memon, on Sunday said that free, responsible and dignified journalism was the strong foundation of any democratic society, while the journalist community played a key role in public awareness, promotion of truth and social reform.

In his special message on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day observed on May 3, Saleem Memon said that Pakistani journalism had effectively highlighted national issues, democratic values, human rights and public voice in every era, and had maintained the bright tradition of truth-telling even in difficult circumstances.

The HCSTSI president, in particular, paid great tribute to the Hyderabad Press Club, its office bearers and the journalists of Hyderabad, saying that the journalist community of Hyderabad had always highlighted civic issues, concerns of the business community, business activities, infrastructure, law and order and social issues with responsibility, courage and professional integrity.

He said that Hyderabad Press Club was a credible institution of freedom of expression, positive journalism and public representation in the city.

He said that there had always been a strong relationship between Hyderabad Chamber and Hyderabad Press Club based on mutual respect, trust and positive cooperation, which not only effectively conveyed the problems of traders and industrialists to the authorities but also played an important role in the overall development of the city, commercial improvement and social harmony.

He said that responsible journalism was not only the spokesperson of truth but also a means of promoting social harmony, national stability and positive thinking. In the present era, the importance of responsible journalism against fake news and negative propaganda has increased more than ever. Along with this, it is the joint responsibility of the state and society to ensure the problems faced by the journalist community, their protection and professional freedom, he added.

He expressed his determination that Hyderabad Chamber would continue to strengthen its long-standing ties with the journalist community and Hyderabad Press Club and continue to make joint efforts for the betterment of the city, business community and society, because free journalism and a strong business community are two important pillars of a developed society.
