SARGODHA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Mar, 2026) Leaders of the Sargodha Union of Journalists (Dastur) have called on the government to take practical steps to promote theatre and support artists, highlighting its vital role in building a conscious and progressive society.
In a joint statement marking the World Theatre Day, observed annually on March 27, President G. Hasnain Shah, General Secretary Bilal Moon, Patron Zulfiqar Ali Hashmi, Information Secretary Tanveer Ahmed Qureshi and Muhammad Shafiq Tahir highlighted the importance of theatre as a reflection of a society’s culture, values and civilization. They noted that theatre not only provides healthy entertainment but also raises awareness about social issues and contributes to positive change.
The leaders stressed that journalism plays a key role in promoting cultural activities, including theatre, and called on journalists to responsibly highlight such initiatives. They described journalists as agents of positive change who must help preserve cultural heritage, encourage artists and accurately represent social issues.
They concluded by urging relevant institutions to address challenges faced by artists and create a supportive environment for the growth of fine arts, particularly theatre, to foster a more informed and culturally enriched society.
