Kamal rails against injustice being meted out to Karachi, says MQM-P will now take to the streets

Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Mustafa Kamal on Saturday announced that the party would take to the streets against the injustice being meted out to Karachi.

He made the announcement while addressing a press conference in Karachi, where he railed against the Sindh government’s indifference towards the metropolis and its people.

“MQM-P has decided that it will no longer stay quiet. We will adopt all the ways listed in the Constitution. We spoke in assemblies, they do not agree. We presented a constitutional amendment, they do not agree. Now, we will make use of the streets while staying within the law and the Constitution. We will come onto the streets with the people,” he said.

“The law and the Constitution give us the right to come out onto the streets. Pakistan is at a point where it can not function under the same system any longer,” he said.

This system, he said, was the one with four provinces and a federating unit. He said that funds dispensed to Sindh were never seen by the districts, adding that there was no system for disbursing the funds to union councils.

“And they say they will not touch the 18th Amendment. The 18th Amendment has not been enforced. That is why MQM-P announces that it will endorse all steps for the devolution of power … the top of the list of which is new provinces on an administrative basis,” he said.
