Karakoram Express coach detaches near Khanewal, no injuries reported

KHANEWAL, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Mar, 2026) The Karakoram Express travelling from Karachi to Lahore partially split near Khanewal after a clipping hook broke, railway sources said.

According to officials, an economy class coach developed a fault just as the train was about to enter the Khanewal railway platform. The spokesperson said the incident did not cause any damage to the train cabins or injuries to passengers.

The economy class coach No. 7 (12857) became detached due to the fault, causing a temporary delay. The train resumed its journey after repairs were completed.

Officials attributed the incident to a lack of resources leading to maintenance challenges in the railway system.

Meanwhile, a day earlier, at least eight bogies of the Tezgam Express derailed near Lodhran, leaving several passengers injured. Railway officials said the injured were provided first aid and later discharged.

The affected bogies were removed using a hydraulic crane, and the railway track has been fully cleared and restored for both up and down traffic.
