MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Apr, 2026) The Kashmir Diaspora Coalition has praised Pakistan’s centric mediator role in the recent middle East ceasefire, noting that it helped reduce the risk of wider regional escalation and reinforced Pakistan’s relevance as a diplomatic facilitator. Turkey-based veteran Kashmiri leader in exile, Dr. Mubeen Shah, however, cautioned that the temporary halt in armed conflict must be viewed with strategic realism.
In a telephonic interview with APP on Wednesday, Dr. Shah highlighted that while the United States used the ceasefire as an exit from a costly confrontation, Iran negotiated from a position of resilience, compelling talks on its own terms. He drew parallels to previous crises, including the Pahalgam incident, where fragile ceasefires offered openings that ultimately faded due to lack of institutionalization.
Dr. Shah emphasized that ceasefires alone cannot resolve conflicts.
“Openings must be institutionalized quickly before they close, and international attention must be sustained,” he said, warning that historical patterns show such opportunities often dissipate without proactive follow-up. He noted Pakistan’s past successes, including facilitating the 1971 US-China rapprochement and supporting the Doha Agreement, as examples of effective diplomacy.
Looking ahead, Dr. Shah stressed that the real test for Pakistan lies in moving beyond facilitation to shaping a sustained political process that achieves durable peace. Drawing lessons from the 2025 India–Pakistan conflict, he pointed out that ceasefires create crucial moments, but without committed follow-through, these moments risk being lost—a challenge Pakistan must now address in the Middle East context.
