Khyber Pakhtunkhwa braces for heavy rains from July 29 to Aug 5

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Jul, 2026) The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert forecasting heavy monsoon rains across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 29 to August 5.

According to the PDMA on Tuesday, all district administrations have been directed to ensure advance precautionary measures to minimize the impact of the expected weather conditions.

The authority said monsoon currents are expected to enter the upper and central parts of the province from July 29, while a new spell of strong western weather systems is likely to become active from August 1, increasing the intensity of rainfall.

The PDMA warned of possible landslides and flash floods in local streams of Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Upper Kohistan and Lower Kohistan.

The authority also cautioned about the risk of urban flooding in Swat, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi and Nowshera, along with other central and plain areas of the province.

District administrations have been instructed to maintain continuous monitoring of rivers, streams and seasonal waterways, complete preventive measures in vulnerable communities and keep rescue teams, emergency machinery and equipment on standby in flood- and landslide-prone areas.

The PDMA further advised authorities to take safety measures regarding weak buildings, electricity poles and billboards due to the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds.

Citizens and tourists have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather, maintain a safe distance of at least 20 feet from rivers and streams and stay away from floodwaters and overflowing waterways. Tourists have also been advised to avoid trekking, hiking and camping in mountainous areas during periods of heavy rainfall.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, the Emergency Operations Center is fully operational and the public can contact the toll-free helpline 1700 in case of any emergency.
