KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Feb, 2026) The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Monday announced a comprehensive and large-scale infrastructure rehabilitation program aimed at transforming the city’s road network and improving municipal services across all districts.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting of the Engineering Department chaired by Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, where key policy directions and timelines were finalized to accelerate development initiatives.

KMC will undertake extensive rehabilitation of roads throughout the city. In addition to roads under its direct administrative control, the Corporation has decided to rehabilitate 183 additional roads in various districts to ensure improved connectivity and smoother traffic flow.

The Mayor directed that all schemes be finalized on priority and emphasized that tenders must be issued before Eid to ensure immediate commencement of work.

He underscored that delays will not be tolerated and that the pace of execution must match the scale of the vision.

In a significant step toward sustainability and energy efficiency, the Mayor also directed that Jahangir Road be converted to solar-powered street lighting. He further instructed the Engineering and relevant departments to ensure improved management of street lighting systems alongside road rehabilitation, so that citizens benefit from safer and well-lit thoroughfares.

Mayor Karachi reiterated that there are no financial constraints hindering development works and called upon officers and field teams to perform with full commitment and dedication.

“All civic issues facing the city will be addressed under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. We are fully committed to delivering visible and lasting change,” he stated.

He further announced that he will personally monitor the progress of all major projects and warned that strict action will be taken against any negligence or inefficiency in execution.
