Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched a Rs 2.4 billion Union Council-Based Development Scheme aimed at upgrading essential neighborhood infrastructure across the city

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Feb, 2026) Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched a Rs 2.4 billion Union Council-Based Development Scheme aimed at upgrading essential neighborhood infrastructure across the city.

The initiative focuses on strengthening the internal fabric of Karachi by addressing long-standing civic issues at the grassroots level.

Designed to directly benefit residential areas and public vicinities, the development program prioritizes internal streets, sewerage systems, road improvements, beautification drives, and park development projects across all districts.

The scheme is being implemented under the District Annual Development Plan, with tenders formally floated and a firm completion deadline set for June 30, 2026.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor of Karachi stated that the initiative represents a strategic shift toward addressing the everyday challenges faced by citizens within their neighborhoods.

“Apart from mega development projects, we are now focusing on strengthening the basic infrastructure of the city at the Union Council level. These works are essential and cannot be delayed any further. I have set a clear deadline of June 30, 2026. If officers fail to deliver within the timeline, I would not hesitate to ask them to leave the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. We need officers who prioritize resolving the people’s basic issues.”

2.4 billion development package covers all districts of Karachi, ensuring equitable distribution of resources and prioritizing complaint-driven and need-based projects. Special attention will be given to areas that have faced neglect in terms of internal road conditions, drainage systems, and neighborhood parks.

Key components of the initiative include: rehabilitation and construction of internal streets; upgrading and repair of sewerage networks; road carpeting and structural improvements; beautification of public spaces; development and restoration of parks; and complaint-based priority interventions.

The scheme aims to provide direct relief to households by resolving day-to-day civic challenges that impact quality of life, sanitation, accessibility, and environmental conditions.

The Mayor reiterated that accountability will remain central to the program’s execution, warning that performance benchmarks will be strictly monitored to guarantee timely completion.

With tenders already issued and implementation underway, the Rs. 2.4 billion initiative marks a significant step toward rebuilding Karachi’s internal infrastructure and creating cleaner, safer, and more livable neighborhoods across the city.

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering tangible results by mid-2026, ensuring that development is not only promised—but completed.
