Kohat police nab murder suspect within hours, tighten security across district

KOHAT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th May, 2026) Acting on the directives of District Police Officer Shahbaz Elahi, Kohat Police on Tuesday arrested the main suspect in a murder case within hours of the incident and simultaneously enhanced security arrangements across the district to ensure public safety.

Police officials said the accused, identified as Barkat Shah, son of Yaqeen Shah and a resident of Kamal Khel, was taken into custody during a raid conducted at his hideout after the killing of Mir Aslam near Dhoda Chowk Highway. The operation was led by SHO Waqar Khan, during which police also recovered a rifle, a 30-bore pistol, and 15 cartridges. Authorities said further investigation and interrogation of the suspect are underway.

In a parallel gesture of support and solidarity, senior police officers visited the families of police martyrs and distributed gifts among their children, assuring them of continued institutional support. The bereaved families appreciated the initiative and described it as a morale-boosting step.

Police officials also visited a constable injured during an encounter with terrorists at Shadi Pur check-post, praising his courage and expressing best wishes for his recovery. Authorities reiterated that the sacrifices rendered by police martyrs remain a matter of pride for the force.

Meanwhile, security across Kohat has been further strengthened with additional police personnel deployed at markets, cattle fairs, public places, and key entry and exit points of the city. Traffic police have been directed to ensure uninterrupted vehicular movement, while patrols, snap-checking, and surveillance activities have been intensified. Citizens were urged to immediately report any suspicious activity through police helplines 0922-920131 and 0340-5012181, as authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring law and order across the district.
