KP CM’s aide chairs review meeting of Food Security Support Project

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Jun, 2026) Advisor to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Agriculture, Main Muhammad Umar chaired review meeting of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Security Support Project (KP-FSSP) here on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Agriculture Dr Muhammad Bakhtiar Khan, Project Director KP-FSSP Fazal Qadir, and other relevant officials.

The meeting reviewed in detail the targets achieved under the project, ongoing development activities and future road-map. Officials briefed the Advisor Agriculture on various components of the project and progress made so far.

Speaking on the occasion, Mian Muhammad Umar said that provincial government is utilizing all available resources to promote agricultural development, strengthen food security and address the challenges posed by climate change.

He expressed confidence that timely completion of the project would enhance agricultural productivity, promote modern technologies, improve farmers economic conditions and further strengthen province’s agriculture sector.

During tuhe briefing, participants were informed that US$ 88 million KP Food Security Support Project is successfully implementing a number of key initiatives aimed at agricultural development, food security enhancement, and climate resilience across the province. Effective measures are being taken to rehabilitate farmers in seven flood-affected districts, strengthen capacity of agricultural institutions and promote modern farming systems.

The meeting was further informed that more than 923,000 farmers have been registered so far, resulting in the establishment of province’s largest digital farmer database. To ensure transparency, an e-subsidy system and a branchless banking model have been introduced while an effective grievance redress mechanism has also been activated for prompt resolution of farmers’ complaints.

Officials stated that Crop Reporting Services (CRS) have been digitized and field operations have been strengthened through provision of 500 motorcycles, six tractors, and six mini-trucks. In addition, solarization and rehabilitation of several agricultural offices and laboratories have been completed.

The meeting was told that under the project, 450,000 farmers are being supported through provision of wheat, rice and fertilizers. Assistance is also being extended to 42,000 vegetable growers, while 28,000 women are benefiting from kitchen gardening and food processing facilities.

Furthermore, 25,000 women have received seed-cleaning and safe agricultural-use kits. Appreciating the progress achieved under the project, Mian Muhammad Umar directed the concerned authorities to complete all ongoing activities within the stipulated timeframe so that maximum benefits could reach the farming community.
