PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) A meeting of the Elementary and Secondary Education Department was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, where key decisions were taken to modernize the education system through advanced technology.

The meeting approved the establishment of Pakistan’s first public-sector virtual school system and the introduction of AI-based teachers.

The forum also granted in-principle approval for the creation of an AI Education Authority and directed officials to expedite necessary preparations.

It was decided that students enrolled in virtual schools, including overseas Pakistanis and out-of-school children, would be given the status of regular students.

Officials termed virtual schools a “game changer,” particularly for students in remote and underserved areas. The integration of AI technology is expected to enable personalized learning while reducing the workload on teachers.

During the meeting, it was revealed that 46 government schools have already been shifted to an online education system on a pilot basis, including 33 schools from settled districts and 13 from merged districts.

Authorities plan to expand the initiative in June under the Annual Development Programme (ADP), with an additional 175 schools set to be converted into virtual institutions.

The project also includes the establishment of a central digital teaching studio, offering live interactive classes and recorded lectures.

AI teachers will initially deliver instruction in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and will be available 24/7 in urdu, English, and Pashto.

The total cost of the project has been estimated at Rs. 153.80 million, with Rs. 44.850 million allocated for the Tele-Education Hub.

The chief minister directed authorities to accelerate implementation to ensure the timely provision of modern and quality education across the province.
