KP Govt launches digital workspace aiming fostering eco-friendly governance, enhancing transparency

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Apr, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary, Shahab Ali Shah on Saturday said that government has formally launched a comprehensive digital workspace aimed at fostering eco-friendly governance and enhancing transparency.

He said that provincial government was prioritising digitisation to streamline public service delivery and transition away from traditional, cumbersome bureaucratic processes. The step to e-governance marks a pivotal moment for the region, as administrative departments begin formal transition to a paperless environment.

The environmental and operational benefits of project are substantial. Officials estimate that initiative will save more than 1.3 million sheets of paper annually, aligning with province’s broader goals for environmental sustainability.

Furthermore, digitisation of file work was set to transform administrative efficiency; time required for file processing was expected to be slashed by 80%. Under the previous manual system, file approvals could languish for up to 120 days, but new digital workspace aims to reduce this turnaround time to just 25 days.

The scale of digital integration was vast, encompassing more than 2,500 government officials across 37 different departments. The system was designed to be a unified hub for public services, ensuring that government remains accessible and responsive to citizenry.

The rollout extends far beyond provincial capital, incorporating all seven divisions and every district within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This network includes 71 directorates and 74 government authorities, creating a cohesive digital infrastructure that spans entire province.

With complete transfer of daily affairs and file management to this digital platform, provincial government anticipates a drastic reduction in wastage of both time and financial resources.

Secretary Shahab Ali Shah emphasised that implementation of this system was not merely about technological adoption, but about fundamental reform in execution of government affairs. By eliminating physical movement of files, province was setting a new standard for accountability and resource management in the public sector.
