KP Govt sends VC Gomal University on forced leave, orders inquiry

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jun, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has placed the Vice Chancellor of Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, on forced leave for 90 days and launched a broad inquiry into administrative and governance matters at the institution.

According to an official notification issued by the Higher Education, Archives and libraries Department, the action was approved by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in his capacity as Chancellor of Gomal University under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa University Act, 2012, following recommendations submitted by an inquiry committee.

Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Vice Chancellor of Gomal University, has been directed to proceed on leave for a period of 90 days.

Meanwhile, Imran Ullah Khan, Administrative Officer (BPS-19), has been assigned additional charge as Registrar of the university until further orders.

The provincial government has also constituted a three-member committee to conduct a detailed review of governance, administration, financial management, recruitment practices, security arrangements, hostel administration and student discipline at the university.

The committee includes the Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan as convener, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peshawar as member, and the Registrar of the University of Science and Technology, Bannu as member and secretary.

The committee has been tasked with examining reports of an alleged firing incident involving a university security official and a law student, investigating a reported hostel dispute, reviewing recruitment-related complaints and assessing overall institutional performance.

It will consult relevant stakeholders, determine responsibility in cases of misconduct or administrative lapses, and propose corrective and disciplinary measures where necessary.

The committee has been directed to submit its findings and recommendations to the Higher education Department within two weeks.
