KP Govt to launch biometric inmate management, tele-visit facilities

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Apr, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a comprehensive digital reforms of prison and judicial systems, starting with implementation of a biometric-based central management system for inmate visitations.

In a statement issued by KP Home Department on Sunday, to modernize communication, a new "tele-visit" video call facility is being introduced specifically designed to help women, elderly, and sick maintain contact with their relative more easily.

Beyond communication, the project aims to streamline legal processes and ensure prisoner rights. A new digital tracking system will be deployed to monitor and expedite release of inmates eligible for parole who are currently stalled by bureaucratic delays.

Furthermore, KP government was establishing a Legal Aid Agency to provide free representation for impoverished and deserving individuals, while simultaneously linking under-trial prisoner records with prosecution and judicial systems to eliminate lengthy case delays.

In a move to enhance transparency across province, KP government has also decided to fully activate KP Charity Commission. This initiative will mandate registration and regular auditing of all welfare and charitable institutions to prevent misuse of funds.

By integrating technology into both penal and charitable sectors, the provincial administration aims to ensure greater accountability and social justice for citizens of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
