KP govt unveils plan to transform Peshawar infrastructure

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Jul, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a comprehensive Peshawar Revitalization and Urban Transformation Program aimed at building a more connected, livable and sustainable provincial capital, with multiple infrastructure projects underway to improve mobility, public spaces and urban services.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, the programme brings together strategic investments in transport, public infrastructure and urban renewal to address long-standing challenges while creating opportunities for future generations.

Official sources said the initiative seeks to make everyday life easier by improving mobility, expanding public spaces, strengthening essential services and supporting sustainable economic growth.

Key investments under the plan include Rs. 500 million for the rehabilitation and upgrading of major city roads under Phase-I, Rs.3.5 billion for the Hayatabad Industrial Estate–Northern Bypass Link Road to improve connectivity and support economic activity, and Rs. 14 billion for underpasses at University Road and Ramdas Chowk to ease traffic congestion.

The programme also includes Rs. 982.5 million for the improvement and expansion of the southern section of Ring Road Peshawar, Rs. 6.963 billion for a Level-2 Flyover at the Ring Road–GT Road Interchange, and Rs. 9.462 billion for the Ring Road Missing Link (Phase-III), connecting Nasir Bagh to Aram Town.

Additionally, Rs. 1.532 billion has been allocated for the completion of the remaining Hayatabad Detour Road, while Rs. 9.673 billion is earmarked for the northern section of Ring Road (Phase-II), linking Warsak Road with Nasir Bagh Road.

Officials said these investments are expected to reduce travel times, improve road safety, strengthen connectivity, support local businesses, attract investment and enhance the quality of urban life.

Beyond infrastructure, the programme aims to create a cleaner, more efficient and more inclusive city where residents and visitors can move, work and thrive with greater ease.
