PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Apr, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have formally rolled out a high-tech "Panic Button" system across provincial metropolis to bolster public Safety and emergency response, said Deputy Director of the Safe City Project, Noman Rafi on Sunday.
As a core component of ongoing Safe City Project, these buttons serve as a sophisticated means of two-way communication designed to provide citizens with an immediate lifeline during emergencies.
He explained that the system moves beyond traditional reporting by initiating an instant video call the moment a button is pressed.
This allows user at the command center to visually assess the scene and communicate directly with complainant ensuring a rapid and precise response to accidents, crimes, or medical crises.
The deployment of this technology has been meticulously planned following a comprehensive initial survey of the city's most vulnerable and high-traffic areas.
Currently, 68 panic buttons have been installed in various public squares, busy commercial markets, and strategically near girls' colleges to enhance the safety of female students and shoppers.
This visible police presence aims to deter criminal activity. Building on the success of the initial rollout, authorities have already decided to expand the network significantly, with plans to increase the total number of panic buttons to 150 across the city.
This initiative represents a major milestone for the Peshawar police, transforming the provincial capital into a smarter, safer environment where emergency assistance is now just the push of a button away.
