KP unveils development roadmap focused on health, agriculture and youth

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd May, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has outlined a development roadmap for the fiscal year 2026–27, with a focus on health, agriculture, youth empowerment and public relief initiatives.

The roadmap was discussed during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Sunday, where major projects aimed at transforming the province’s future were reviewed.

The chief minister directed the immediate revival and expansion of a free medicines program for underprivileged cancer patients across the province. He also emphasized ensuring timely funding for the Khyber Institute of Child Health and instructed officials to seek additional resources from the Federal government.

Other proposed health initiatives include, establishment of a Health City and General Hospital in Peshawar, development of medical complexes in Malakand and Kohat, launch of breast cancer screening centers at divisional headquarters, upgrading of Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Rural Health Centers (RHCs), new oncology, burn and kidney centers in Mardan, construction of a clinical tower in Swabi, agriculture and water management, to tackle water scarcity, plans to introduce rain and floodwater harvesting systems in major urban areas.

The Agriculture Department has been tasked with preparing a comprehensive strategy to achieve self-sufficiency in wheat and other essential crops.

Key agriculture proposals include provision of modern machinery to farmers, development of command areas for 22 small dams, interest-free loans for agricultural graduates, scholarships for students in the sector.

The roadmap also highlights initiatives for youth empowerment including implementation of a provincial youth policy, establishment of youth centers, special facilities for children with disabilities in sports complexes, emergency services expansion under relief and emergency services.

The government also plans to set up Rescue 1122 sub-stations in all tehsils, establish rescue points in densely populated areas and launch mobile command and control centers.

The officials say the roadmap represents a significant step toward improving public services, creating employment opportunities, and driving sustainable development across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
