KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Apr, 2026) Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi met with Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed (Retd) at the Governor's House, where matters related to the promotion of the blue economy, effective utilization of marine resources, and development of Pakistan’s maritime sector were discussed in detail.

The Governor said that better utilization of coastal resources can strengthen the national economy and create employment opportunities through the blue economy. He emphasized the need to modernize fisheries, shipping, and port-related activities.

During the meeting, investment opportunities in Pakistan’s maritime sector were also discussed. The Governor of Sindh directed special focus on the development of coastal areas and the welfare of local communities, adding that effective use of vast coastal resources can boost exports and give a new direction to the national economy.

Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed (Retd) briefed the Governor Sindh on ongoing initiatives related to the blue economy and informed that efforts are underway to introduce reforms and modern technology in the maritime sector. He also highlighted issues of heavy traffic and infrastructure around the port, emphasizing the need for improved traffic management and infrastructure development in port areas.

He further stated that linking the port with Sharah-e-Bhutto would significantly reduce heavy traffic congestion in the city. Both sides also discussed the potential of transforming Karachi Port Trust into a hub of blue economy.
