Laboratory professionals playing key role in modern healthcare

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th May, 2026) Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Principal Prof Farooq Afzal said on Sunday

that laboratory professionals were playing a pivotal role in saving lives through

accurate and timely diagnosis in the modern healthcare system.

He was addressing a ceremony organised by the Department of Pathology,

PGMI/Lahore General Hospital in connection with “Lab Week 2026.”

Prof Farooq Afzal said that in modern medicine, a physician’s decision remains

incomplete without laboratory results. He added that the professional expertise,

integrity, and relentless hard work of pathologists and laboratory staff determine

the right direction of a patient’s treatment.

He announced that comprehensive measures would be taken to further upgrade

the Pathology Department in line with international standards. He said his priorities

include the provision of state-of-the-art equipment, continuous professional training

for laboratory staff, and enhancement of diagnostic services to ensure patients

receive prompt and reliable facilities.

MS Lahore General Hospital Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain, in his address, said that

the laboratory department was the backbone of hospital’s performance.

He noted

that such events not only boost the morale of staff members but also highlight their

professional capabilities and promote teamwork.

During a briefing, the Head of Pathology Department informed the Principal that

a total of 2,380,647 laboratory tests were conducted during 2025. Among these,

714,194 tests were performed in the Emergency Lab to provide immediate diagnostic

support and ensure timely treatment for patients.

At the end of ceremony, honorary badges were awarded to laboratory staff for

outstanding performance, while a cake-cutting ceremony was also held to celebrate

the spirit of teamwork.

Principal Prof. Farooq Afzal expressed satisfaction over the department’s performance

and appreciated the services of Prof. Dr. Nazish Saqlain and Prof. Dr. Farhan Rasheed.

The event was attended by MS LGH Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain, Prof. of Pathology

Dr. Nazish Saqlain, Prof. Dr. Farhan Rasheed, Dr. Abdul Aziz, and a large number

of faculty members and healthcare professionals.
