Lawmakers call for long-term economic stability amid rising fuel prices

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Apr, 2026) Lawmakers on Monday emphasised the need for a clear, forward-looking policy to address rising fuel prices and inflation, expressing confidence that a well-planned strategy can help steer the country through current global challenges.

Speaking in the National Assembly of Pakistan, Gul Asghar Khan said the recent price increases were part of a broader global situation, noting that Pakistan, like many countries, is navigating external pressures. He highlighted the importance of proactive planning to ensure economic stability.

He noted that inflation has affected various segments of society, particularly farmers, labourers, and those linked to agriculture, and stressed that targeted support and effective policies can help ease their burden.

While appreciating the government’s diplomatic efforts and timely response, he underlined the importance of transparency and preparedness in view of evolving global conditions, including tensions in key regions and developments around major oil routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

Haji Rasool Bux Chandio also called for measures to further strengthen the agriculture sector, describing it as the backbone of the economy.

He expressed optimism that with supportive policies, including relief on farm inputs and broader stakeholder engagement, the sector can continue to play a vital role in economic growth.

Meanwhile, Mahtab Akbar Rashdi highlighted the importance of building public confidence through consistent and transparent decision-making.

She suggested that a dedicated think tank could help develop sustainable, long-term solutions to economic challenges.
