LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Feb, 2026) Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Tuesday stressed the need for hallmarking, testing labs for jewelry industry.
LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol chaired a meeting of standing committee on reforms in the gems and jewelry sector here.
Gems and Jewelry Association President Sheikh Muhammad Zahid, General Secretary Hamad Maqsood Gul, Joint Secretary Aqeel Ahmed, Information Secretary Muhammad Asif, former LCCI president Muhammad Ali Mian and Executive Committee members attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol highlighted that Pakistan’s jewelry sector has very low exports, while globally this sector earns billions of dollars. He emphasized that this sector should immediately be given the status of a formal industry to avail benefits.
The meeting also discussed various reforms including a clear mechanism for fixing gold rates, the availability of testing labs, and the establishment of an authority for gold and silver.
The President asked the Association to send their budget proposals to Lahore Chamber so that the Chamber could forward them to the government.
The meeting also stressed the importance of hall marking. The delegation said that traders should also have hall marking certificates to ensure the quality of gold.
The LCCI President added that along with structural reforms, there is a need to establish a price control committee, streamline buying and selling procedures, involve the government in rate determination, and facilitate the transport of gold between cities.
He stated that if these reforms are implemented on time, the gems and jewelry industry could generate billions of Dollars in revenue for Pakistan. He also emphasized working on mines and providing lab testing facilities so that the quality of the country’s products can be certified according to international standards.
