Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Uzma Quraishi reaffirms the university’s commitment to promoting women’s leadership and academic excellence

LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 7th, 2026) Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) successfully held the online closing ceremony of the Women Empowerment and Mentoring Program (WEMP) – 3rd Cohort, marking the completion of another initiative aimed at strengthening the professional and leadership capacities of women faculty.

The ceremony began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Dr. Afifa Khanam. The session was moderated by Dr. Tahira Kalsoom, Secretary WEMP, who ensured the smooth conduct of the event and highlighted key achievements of the program, including mentoring activities, professional development, and its overall institutional impact.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Uzma Quraishi reaffirmed the university’s commitment to promoting women’s leadership and academic excellence. She appreciated the contributions of mentors, mentees, and organizers in building a strong and sustainable mentoring culture within the institution.

Dr. Noor Amna Malik, Managing Director of the National academy of Higher Education (NAHE), attended the ceremony as the chief guest. In her keynote address, she praised LCWU for establishing structured mentoring practices and described WEMP as a model initiative supporting women’s empowerment and leadership development in the higher education sector.

She also stressed the importance of continuous professional learning and capacity-building aligned with national education reforms.

WEMP has emerged as a flagship initiative of LCWU, playing a key role in developing women academic leaders, strengthening faculty collaboration, and enhancing professional confidence and leadership skills.

The completion of the third cohort reflects the university’s vision of empowering women educators and preparing future leaders capable of contributing to both national and international academic environments.

Senior faculty members, including Prof. Dr. Farzana Rashid, Prof. Dr. Zohra Nasir Kayani, Prof. Dr. Faleeha Kazmi, Prof. Dr. Neelma Munir, and Dr. Afifa Khanam, shared their insights on the program’s impact, highlighting the role of structured mentoring in fostering professional growth and leadership readiness.

The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment by LCWU to continue promoting inclusive leadership, professional development, and sustainable mentoring practices in higher education.
