LGH launches Corneal Transplant Program under Punjab Health Card Initiative

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jul, 2026) The Lahore General Hospital (LGH) administration has formally approved the launch of a Corneal Transplant (Keratoplasty) Program under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's Human Organ Transplant Initiative and Health Card Program.

According to the LGH spokesperson on Friday, the approval was granted after a comprehensive evaluation by the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company (PHIMC) and the State Life Insurance Corporation. The initiative will enable Health Card holders across Punjab, as well as underprivileged and deserving patients suffering from vision loss, to receive advanced, high-quality corneal transplant services at Lahore General Hospital.

Farooq Afzal and Medical Superintendent of Lahore General Hospital Professor Dr. Faryad Hussain welcomed the development, saying it reflects Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's vision of providing world-class healthcare facilities to the underprivileged people of the province.

They also praised the efforts of Professor Dr. Tayyaba Gul Malik, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, and her team for achieving this milestone.
