The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday suspended the sentence of Afzal Azeem Pahat, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, in a case related to rioting at Sherpao Bridge
LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Apr, 2026) The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday suspended the sentence of Afzal Azeem Pahat, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, in a case related to rioting at Sherpao Bridge.
A division bench headed by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi heard the application challenging the denial of sentence suspension.
During proceedings, defence counsel argued that the anti-terrorism court’s verdict was contrary to evidence and legal requirements, and requested that the sentence be suspended.
The counsel further submitted that the petitioner had already filed an appeal against his conviction, which is pending, and contended that the sentence should remain suspended until a final decision on the appeal.
After hearing detailed arguments, the bench allowed the plea and suspended the sentence.
An anti-terrorism court had earlier sentenced Afzal Azeem Pahat to 10 years imprisonment in the Sherpao Bridge rioting case.
